Cornerstone: A Friendly Handwritten Font for Branding Projects
Testing Cornerstone Across Brand Touchpoints
- Logo Concept: I used it for the bakery’s name in a stacked layout with a supporting sans serif. The contrast worked beautifully—Cornerstone added warmth and character while the sans serif grounded the design.
- Packaging Mockup: Applied to a cookie box mockup, the font felt natural and inviting. It gave the impression of a hand-labeled product, which aligned perfectly with the brand’s artisanal positioning.
- Business Card: At print size, the font remained crisp and readable. I was especially pleased with how the lowercase letters maintained their charm without becoming distracting.
- Website Header: On a hero section mockup, Cornerstone gave the homepage a friendly and welcoming tone. It worked best with a clean background and a supporting font for subtext.
- Social Media Layout: Instagram story templates looked more engaging with Cornerstone in the title text. Its natural flow helped guide the eye and added a sense of movement to the layout.
Font Pairing Tips for Brand Consistency
- Sans Serif: A clean, modern sans like Montserrat or Lato creates a nice contrast and keeps the overall design from feeling too ornate.
- Serif: For a more traditional or editorial feel, a soft serif like Merriweather or Playfair Display adds elegance and depth.
- Script: If you want to lean into the handwritten aesthetic, pair Cornerstone with a simpler script font for subheadings or accents.
